Description
Blessed with pristine backdrop, Badrinath is amongst the most famous pious centers, nestled at a height of 3,100 m amid the Nar and Narayana Mountain in Chamoli district in the amiable state of Uttarakhand.Founded in 9th century by Adi Shankaracharya, Badrinath is believed to be the place where Lord Vishnu had done penance, while his wife Lakshmi taken the form of a Bael tree to tender him asylum from the burning heat. The temple is one most important shrine among the Char Dham Pilgrimage sites & also highly revered among the Panch Badri. It is mentioned in Bhagavata Purana that at Badrikashram (means Badrinath), the sages Nara and Narayana had been undergoing great penance since time immemorial for the welfare of all living entities. This religious town is situated between Nar & Narayan Mountains on the bank of river Alaknanda. There are a few legendary believes associated with this sacred place.
Another belief is that when Lord Vishnu meditating here then Goddess Lakshmi stood next to protect him from scorching sunlight & later she turned into a Badri herself called ‘BADRI VISHAL’ and lord (Nath) became the Badrinath.
